This is the electrical portion of the ignition switch. This switch unplugs so you can swap the switch without disconnecting the battery.
One trick with this model if you are unsure if the switch is bad, get the new switch, you can unplug the old one, and plug it into the new one, before installing it.
Just use a screwdriver to rotate and see if proper operation is achieved. If so, then swap the switch. If not, the problem is elsewhere.
