This is the new-style thermostat for VW Type 1 engines, as fitted to all 1200cc–1600cc from 1960 to 1979 will fit beetles and Kombi's with Type 1 Style engines fitted to 1979.
It requires slight modification of the mounting bracket to enable a good fit.
The thermostat is essential to help prolong engine life. By controlling the point at which cooling air is allowed to flow over the engine, a properly working thermostat limits engine wear. It allows the engine to heat up in a controlled way and reach its optimum running temperature however hot or cold it is outside.
Operates at 65˚C-70˚C
