Hoover Bit (Doghouse Oil Cooler Sealing Frame), for OEM VW Fan Shrouds ensures that cooling air goes THROUGH the oil cooler

If this piece of tin is missing (and they often are), the cooling air bypasses the cooler, and oil temperature skyrocket.

The Hoover Bit is the most commonly omitted part when people rebuild their VW engines. 

This part was part of the OEM VW Doghouse Cooling System, but it was aptly nick-named after Bob Hoover (RIP), a long-time active member of the VW hobby community, who told every VW enthusiast that would listen to make sure this part was in place and installed correctly.

If you look carefully at the pictures, you'll see examples of where the Hoover Bit is present, and another where it's missing, and you should be able to envision the massive air leak that occurs if this piece is not there.
